Life and Burdens and Stuff...
Recently my oldest child (Osprey- my 17 year old son) and I and Dear Hubby have been having some long serious talks. It's that time in Dear son's life when there are new challenges and difficult decisions to be made--especially regarding his future. We have hours of talking and prayer behind us and probably many more hours ahead of us. During these talks we alternate between very happy and a little frustrated and sad (that's me-- because my baby is growing up--when did this happen?).
However, I am so excited to see him maturing and I want to help launch his life into whatever God has planned for him.
This is an excellent time for me to offer him great words of wisdom gleaned through the years.
The following is a list emailed to me by my Aunt that captures some of the wisdom of the ages! ;-).
You've probably seen some of these before. I believe that some of these are quotes that could be credited to particular people but I don't have that info. If you know who said any of these let me know I'll be glad to add credit where credit is due.
I hope these help you smile like they do Osprey and I.
and this one is a quote from Yours Truly:
*Don't try to carry God's galvanized wash tub of responsibility...he has a
little colorful plastic pail and spade for you...take it and go.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Matthew 11:28-30

Here are some great ways of dealing with the burdens of life:
* Accept that some days you're the pigeon,
and some days you're the statue.
* Always keep your words soft and sweet,
just in case you have to eat them.
* Always read stuff that will make you look good
if you die in the middle of it.
* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be
recalled by their maker.
* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
* If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again,
it was probably worth it.
* It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply be kind to
others.
* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time,
because then you won't have a leg to stand on.
* Nobody cares if you can't dance well.
Just get up and dance.
* Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.
* The second mouse gets the cheese.
* When everything's coming your way,
you're in the wrong lane.
* Birthdays are good for you.
The more you have, the longer you live.
* You may be only one person in the world,
but you may also be the world to one person.
* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
* We could learn a lot from crayons... Some are sharp, some are
pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are
different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
*A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

I can relate to your convicting talks with your Osprey. We have had many of those lately, and I am sure many more to come. The list was very funny, and a lot of them I hadn't heard before.
Those are some great quotes.....I will have to use them on my 15 year old when the time is right..
Blessings
I understand exactly what you are going through. With a 17yr old daughter and another daughter who will turn 16 in September we have a lot of talks and alot of prayers. At night I spend less time sleeping and more time praying over my daughters. As I have told them over and over again that I am not perfect and I reserve the right to change any rule that might have been made at any time I feel the necessity. Sometimes I do not see things as clearly as I should have until after a decesion might have been already made. They might not understand that today but one day they will. Because they will realize that they are not perfect either and will have to make changes in their own life as it becomes necessary!

I have seriously been having a bad attitude today and those quotes had me laughing, which is concerning that I could swap from one mood to the other so quickly :) The only time I have been happy today is while reading blogs, for once I think my family would be quite happy to leave me sitting by the computer.

Hmm. May I just say that I am personally happy that you're having these discussions? :)
But I know what you mean. My 16yo son just announced that maybe he's rethinking his enlistment plan.... So now what?!
The quotes were great. I'm going to print them out and use them liberally. Some of them sound like they came straight from The Head Kook. lol.
I love those quotes. I shall print them out and paste them in my homemaking folder.
I like that one about being vague. I've never put it into words, but I think I might be good at that. I never want to hurt anyone's feelings!
I can understand where you are at - our kids are now on their own. It's not easy to transition - I'll keep you in prayer.
I love some of those sayings - some are very funny. Thank you for sharing.
These are good bits of advice. I just happened onto your blog and wanted to say that it's such a happy-looking place. I also noticed that you have my Sunday Afternoon Drive blog linked, and that gives me pleasure. I hope you find joyful journeys in it.
Those are great quotes, do we have liberty to use them at will...I love the "If you can't be kind..." one, that is so good! Thanks for the smile on this hot, hot day!
