In Other Words
"Like the proud mother who is thrilled to receive a wilted bouquet of dandelions from her child, so God celebrates our feeble expressions of gratitude." ~ Richard Foster~
How often do we 'become as little children' and give ourselves to God without pretense? ...just like our own precious little ones that bring us those tokens of affection? ...dandelions, a melted piece of chocolate clenched tightly in the fist so it can be saved for mama, a hand drawn picture with scribble writing, a song played on the harmonica...
It's easy to belittle oneself and think that our own offerings of love are meaningless. We don't have to have a 'great and mighty' ministry and a man made title to please God. We are doing what God has called us to already if we focus on our homes and children, teaching and training our little ones in the fear of the Lord and making our homes a place of peace and rest for our husbands and children to rest in.
Do you ever just sit down and enjoy looking at the tiny bugs and leaves in your yard with your children--telling them about the wonderful Creator as you do? Perhaps that is like the handful of dandelions.
Do you ever sit down with your husband or children and offer them some cookies and milk, a listening ear and some heartfelt prayer after a long hard day-- without telling your own problems? Perhaps that is like the fistful of chocolate offered to your Father as you care for the family He has given you.
Do you ever sit and write prayers and thoughts to the Lord in a journal or even a scrap of paper? Wouldn't He like to get love notes like the ones our children give us?
Do you ever sing or hum praise songs or hymns while you wash dishes?
Perhaps that is like the little song puffed out on the harmonica that a child plays for his parents.
God doesn't want us to say: "I'm not a writer, I'm not an artist, I'm not a singer" He wants us to realize that we are wholly His and wholly made by Him, to bring honor to Him in whatever we do.
So, cast aside the pride and the worry that you don't measure up to some man made standard, and give Him everything you've got without pretense.
Today I want to sing while I work and share some cookies with someone, and listen to my children.:-) What simple things can you do?

Lovely post. Funny because I was just waiting for my girls to wake up to help me bake dessert for tonight. Maybe it will be cookies....

"We don't have to have a 'great and mighty' ministry and a man made title to please God." So beautifully written. How much we can praise Him for just sitting in one place. Thank you for the reminders.

I love how you phrased that--"without pretense." That brings to mind a wonderful visual of complete abandonment. And I know God loves me when I love Him back without restraint--why can't I do it more often? Camy

I love that perspective that sometimes doing for others is one way of doing for God to show our gratitude for what He has given us! Thanks for the reminder of that! :)

Thank you for sharing your wonderful thoughts on giving praises to Him in whatever we do. I often hum a song in the morning when I get up - and 99.9% it is praise song just for Him.

New Auction Sites!
Press Release:
New Internet Auction Site Launched to Help the Homeschool Community
Homeschool Buy welcomes online shoppers and vendors seeking a new online auction site since eBay's ban on selling teacher's editions.
White Pine, TN – With the holiday shopping season right around the corner, fans of online auction sites are introduced to the new kid on the block - www.HomeschoolBuy. com. Homeschool Buy is poised to meet the needs of homeschoolers and others who were turned away when eBay decided to prohibit the sale of Teacher's Editions. Homeschool Buy is prepared to handle much, much more than just homeschool curriculum though; they are equipped to handle everything from clothing, to craft items, to cameras, and kitchen items! Anything home and family-oriented is welcome.
While other online auction sites have popped up since eBay's big mistake, Homeschool Buy is unique because it comes with a built-in market – the readers of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine and the blogging communities at www.HomeschoolBlogg er.com and www.HomesteadBlogger.com. Some of those folks are the exact ones who encouraged Paul and Gena Suarez, publishers of The Old Schoolhouse, to pursue creating an online auction site that would welcome homeschoolers and their Teacher's Editions. Danny Carlton of JackLewis.net is the webmaster over the new community. He has been instrumental in working with attorneys and script experts to meet deadlines each step of the way. The design is also Carlton ’s creation.
Paul and Gena also hope that their decision to offer an option where the seller would have no basic listing fees will help to encourage people who have never listed at auction sites before to get involved. Unless a product sells, there are no backend auction fees. Customers who are familiar with eBay will find that the set-up is very similar, including being able to create and operate your own store, yet tailored especially to be family-friendly. HSB stores are priced much lower than eBay’s store options as well. Any vendor can set up “shop” with their own custom “place” on the web to do business complete with a very custom traffic base – and on the cheap. While the site is designed to appeal to homeschoolers by giving them the opportunity to buy and sell Teacher's Editions, the site is definitely open to others outside the homeschool community as well. Family commerce on the ‘Net.
The homeschool market is estimated to be a billion dollar a year marketplace and Homeschool Buy provides a venue for everyone from individual families to small companies to mainstream vendors to join the marketplace. Whether it's families cleaning off the bookshelves to make some extra Christmas money or a company striving to move products off of their shelves, Paul and Gena Suarez welcome them to give Homeschool Buy a try. Teacher's Editions are welcome!

RSS Feeds
Ok,
I still haven't figured out this RSS technology. I have a couple of my friends blogs in my news feed section of my home page online. One is a fellow Homeschoolblogger. I have tried and and tried to get mine to show up the same way but to no avail. I have turned it on in my blog settings and someone told me that they are getting a feed from me.Why can't I get it to work for me? Anyone RSS savvy out there who can help me? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Blogger Friend #4
In honor of the season, I thought we all could do something fun this week! I'd like everyone to share something to do with a pumpkin or pumpkin related. This can be a recipe, decorating idea, or if you are really creative "show" us on your blog.
I must admit...this is not one of my specialties. The only thing I do with pumpkin is decorate the front porch with various sizes along with some fall leaves or a fall wreath, and I occasionally make pumpkin bread. At Thanksgiving I make pumpkin pie. After reading other Blogger Friend entries I'll have to try a few of those yummy sounding recipes!

Normally, we do the same. We don't celebrate Halloween in our family, but we do like to decorate a bit with fall leaves, pumpkins, gourds and such. Pumpkin recipes are yummy, though! I am having fun reading others' recipes. Thanks for visiting my blog. God bless!

We carved a pumpkin this weekend. We were looking for other fall things to do. We might make some pumpkin pie.

I read your comment about the Blogger Friend School graphic. I'm sorry that it doesn't work on a dark background. I'm not sure how to fix that since I just barely learned how to add text on the graphic. I will try to research it and see if I can figure it out....in the meantime, if you want to remove it, that's fine with me. :)

Blogger Friend School Assignment 1 / Intro & Dream House
Well, this is my introduction for a new 'class' I've joined called Blogger Friend School. I'm very excited to be a part of this group of ladies. We will receive assignments each week that will help us get to know each other better and also help to encourage each other in our calling to be homeschool moms.
Assignment 1: introduce myself and tell why I am blogging.
First, let me point you to my blog's description and the About Me on the right side of this page.
My blogger name is Sunydazy. This is a play on words representing who I want to be. A cheerful face like a daisy and a sunny disposition. I desire for all my days to be sunny days! I started my blog as a place for family and friends to keep up with our family happenings and also because I enjoy the creative outlet it gives me. I love to research and then share my findings with others (though you won't see much of it on my blog lately, due to my being busy with my twin baby girls). I also love to encourage others in their daily lives. I know how hard life gets for us all at times and I want to be one of those people that helps you feel like you can go on. I want to ease the burden just a bit and I want to remind you to smile and enjoy the simple pleasures God has provided.
Part 2 of assigment 1: Tell about my dream house.
OK. Here are a couple of pictures that show ideas of what I would like for a house...either style suits my dreams, as long as the house has lots of porches, a huge kitchen, a huge laundry/sewing area, a walk in pantry, a playroom, a study for dear hubby, a workshop for dear hubby, lots of closet space, a school/library room and large rooms with lots of empty floor space for all the children to play on. Sounds too grand for any mortal mama to wish for doesn't it? Well this is all about dreams...right? This dream house of mine will be set in the mountains with groupings of evergreens and aspen or birch trees. There will be a kitchen garden and a big veggie garden and a few fruit trees. There will also be a stream nearby and a nice chicken run. I guess I'd better stop now because since this only a dream house I could probably go on for days. But you get the idea!

In Other Words
"It doesn’t matter what is behind you as much as it matters who is beside you." ~ Ellen ~"Laced with Grace"
Oh, how true I've found this to be in my life!
The relationships I hold with my savior, Jesus, and with my dear husband, are truly what have kept me alive in every sense of the word. Being alive is more than just breathing in oxygen. Life lived to it's fullest involves learning to love, learning to sacrifice, learning contentment, and finally, experiencing happiness.
I asked Jesus to be the Lord of my life at the tender age of 3 years old. At the age of seven, I was so in love with Him and I was so determined to make sure that He direct my life, that I asked him again to please live in my heart. He always listens when His children ask Him to direct them and He does it. Of course, in our finite minds we are never really prepared for all the twists and turns that the journey holds. But He is still there, ready to be listened to and ready to listen, if we will just stop and remember to confide in Him.
For my journey, He also provided me with a strong man. This man has stayed with me through thick and thin. Our journey together has been full of adventure and pain and love and the difficulties of growing up.
If anyone had told me when I was young what my life would hold for the next twenty years, I might have withered like a leaf in the fall and dropped to the ground. I would have been petrified! But from this perspective...looking back at what is behind...I am not afraid. I have found that those things in the past do not hold the power to destroy me. God has me in the palm of His hand and my wonderful husband is right beside me all the way.
Of course, having someone beside you is not merely a matter of chance...It takes strong choices to choose to stay with your God and it also takes strong choices to choose to stay with the mate He has given...but that is something to talk about another day. Let me just say that I do not regret, for one moment, having such a wonderful God or having such a strong man to lean on. Life is very hard, for most people...just remember you don't have to walk it alone. Look beside you and lean on the Creator of the Universe.
Nothing else matters.

What a well written perspective on this quote. Even the choices we make are part of God's plan. I also am thankful for the life partner that God has provided. He keeps me anchored.

I love your thought "it takes strong choices" to stay with God or our mate (or anyone for that matter). Sometimes it isn't an easy choice, but ultimately it is the only one that will count. Thanks for sharing. Miriam Pauline

Highschool Homecoming
• Oct. 11, 2006 -
Well, it's been twenty years since I happily walked up to recieve my high school diploma. I remember the bittersweet emotions I had about parting with my safe, familiar, little world and facing the great unknown future...
It all seems so long ago now. At one time I really wanted to see all those old friends and show off my handsome husband and beautiful children. But as time has passed and my pounds have increased I've become less and less interested in any sort of reunion. After all, I already keep in touch with the friends that I'm still friends with...if you know what I mean.
A couple of weeks ago I got a call from my cousin (he was a member of my senior class). He wanted to encourage me to attend the homecoming football game so we could reconnect with some old friends there. The plan was to start getting a list together of all members of our class in order to plan a reunion for next year (one year late---long story). Anyway, I hem-hawed around and tried to ignore it but eventually curiosity won out and I decided to go with hubby and 4 of the 5 children in tow (11 yo DD was at a birthday slumber party).
I probably don't need to tell you how the rest of the 2 days before the event went. I spent every waking moment trying to figure out how to look like someone else...younger, thinner, prettier, hipper (is that a word?). I called my dear friend (cousin's wife) and asked her what she was wearing...she too was in a panic. We decided we needed to do some shopping and hair makeovers. Forget about housework, etc...I hit the stores. I bought a magazine so I could familiarize myself with what people wear these days.(honestly...people expect me to wear things like that?) I also looked over some hair style magazines.(you've got to be kidding...that's an actual style?!)
With a tight budget I opted to start my shopping trip at Target. They seem to stay fairly trendy. Of course, the next step is to actually know what to try on. I haven't tried on a modern pair of jeans in a long time...they come in such unusual shapes these days. It can be very confusing.
I took all the kids with me and all 5 of them waited outside the dressing room. When I found what I thought was a good combo I stepped out and let the kids vote. I had a hit! My 16 yo DS gave me a thumbs up and a smile. My kids were surprised to see that I could look modern and kinda cute . ;-)
My dear hubby gave me some pretty nice compliments that evening, as well.
I never did do anything spectacular to my hair. I just bought a new curling iron. Did you know that modern technology has really improved those things? I mean instant heat and 25 heat settings! Wow! (mine was about 12-14 years old).
Well, it turns out I had all that panic for nothing..It seems that other people age too! In fact, some of those guys looked really old! Are we really the same age?
It was pleasant to see old acquaintances and we had a great time visiting after the game. I won't dread a full fledged reunion quite so much now. It might be fun.

Hello! :) I have been reading your blog lately. A fellow homeschool friend who blogs through HomeschoolBlogger directed me to your site since I also have five children, have always homeschooled, and my oldest is 16. I was reading your post from the 11th and it made me think about my highschool days. I never even hung around with but three or four kids from my own class. I hung out with my sister's friends who were three years older. I was a chubby geek in highschool so most of my interaction with kids in my own class was through demeaning comments from them. As my own 20 year reunion has been approaching, I've thought about what most of them would think of me now-an at-home homeschooling mom who likes to wear long skirts and long hair, who still loves to read even though I don't have to, who lives in a mobile home by choice. Would they just think I haven't changed all that much? I'm still chubby too. In fact I'm still the same size I was in high school. I thought about the fact that most of them who teased me can't fit into their prom dresses anymore. That's kind of a good feeling. Well anyway, there was one girl who was relentless about teasing me and who also was prom queen and voted "most likely to suceed" (she had plans to become a lawyer) I still hadn't chosen any true career path as a senior and she thought that was wierd. So I was going on my homeschool email list one day and found a post from a new homeschool mom wanting to get with others in her area. The name was shockingly familiar! It was the same girl(woman). No she hadn't become a lawyer, she never finsished college, she did odd jobs until deciding to work from home as a jewelry designer. As an engaged young woman, her fiance had left her two months before the wedding because she had found out that she was pregnant and he did not want children. Now eight years later she is pulling her daughter from school due to "excessive bullying at the local elementary". And she also decided she wants her daughter to get a real education. She says she never knew, until after highschool, just what the real world was like outside of school and it was a real shock to her. It's amazing that the two of us, so different at one point in our lives, now head down the same path. The Lord will surely lead us where he wants us to go, He is always at the reins! Blessings & Happy Homeschooling Amy

Hi Amy, It's always nice to meet people who read this blog. It sounds like we have a lot in common. I too, have long hair and LOVE to wear long skirts. That's why this thinking I needed new clothes, especially blue jeans, was so funny and also why my kids were so shocked to see me in them! I should probably point out that I attended a Christian School founded by my parents in 1980.My senior class was very small (21 or 22 of us?) and we were fairly close knit as a group: very little fun poking. Still, there were some of the members who just didn't hold the same values as I and I only maintained contact with about 3 of them:one of them was my cousin, another one has since become a Mennonite and one other family that is also very conservative(lots of children, etc). I and my husband have become more and more conservative in our life approach as time goes on. I hope you won't hold too much of a grudge against all those mean classmates of yours. ;-) They are probably reaping what they sowed and struggling with life issues that you and I may never have to face...poor things. Accidents, Mistakes and Dreams
Howdy folks! Hope you're well!
I've been busy, busy, busy. My last couple of weeks have included lovely little adventures.
One of those is me falling down the back stairs of our house. Ouch!
I fell right out the back door and bounced down like a wooden doll. I landed flatly on my bee-hind and sat there dazed and winded.
I had been carrying our bird cage that houses our zebra finches and diamond doves. On my way down, the bird cage slammed against the stairs and broke. It landed in the nearby grass, scattering startled little birds all over the yard. After they sat and blinked at me for about 1 or 2 seconds, they gleefully chirped, flitted and fluttered into the nearby trees. We have no more birds. :-(
I ended up with lots of bruises, a sore lower back and backside, and a seriously painful ankle...but nothing broken, thankfully.
We salvaged the day by spending the next hour or so in that part of the yard. Since I didn't think I could get up yet, the children joined me and I directed them in clean up chores and we enjoyed the relatively cool weather.
I'm so glad we homeschool! I don't like to think of what I'd done if no one was there with me except the babies.
A few of my other little adventures include my husband realizing yet again, how poorly I handle certain financial matters...we will not talk about that here. (no...I am not a credit card shopping nut...just a bit forgetful about certain things...and perhaps a bit airheaded about some things...) I apologized (again!) and bought my sweetie a token gift and card (no, not expensive ones!) to remind him that I do love him and ask him to love me back and forgive me. :-).
Right now, the song 'Just As I Am' is humming in my head. Oh how thankful I am that God knows how weak and foolish we are and yet still loves us!
Let's see...oh yes! We attempted to buy a pretty little piece of property we found while on our trip to Oklahoma. I went to the bank with our application and they approved us with a broad smile and handshake. We had not put down any earnest money or signed any contract because the property wasn't actually listed and we weren't sure if the bank would approve us. We called the seller ready to meet and he said "Oh, I'm sorry! I already sold it." (sigh)
Oh well, apparently there is something else out there that is better for us. We'll keep looking.
Well, I really must close for now. I have a long list of things to do today, so I'd better get started.
See you soon!

I am so sorry to hear about your fall. And the lost birds. It reminds me of the time I sliced my thumb sideways on my blender blade. I almost fainted and both my kids were with me alone and under the age of four. I was able to call hubby before passing out and he made it just in time to help bandage me up. It was ugly. I am always amazed how God intervenes on our behalf. Modern day miracles. Hey, I am sending off your cute little prize today. I hope it makes you smile. Blessings,

Blessings,

The prize arrived! It's lovely. I'm so proud of it. Thanks for being a vessel of blessing to others. Sunydazy
